Amoxicillin dosage?

I have a sinus infection. Saw nurse at walk-in centre yesterday who said I didn't need antibiotics, just bed rest. Felt so awful I cried! In the end she gave me Amoxicillin and said dose was 500 mg x 3 per day but not to start course unless I got worse.

Today felt about same, but struggling with kids, so got appt with GP. GP said def need anti-b and gave me prescription for same Amoxicillin but dose of 250mg x 3 a day. Only just noticed this, so too late to ask doc.

Anyone know which is correct? Obv don't want to take more than I need or worse not clear the infection!

Ring up the gp surgery and confirm. I have been prescribed the higher dose, but then I had a raging infection, high temperature, couldn't get out of bed, terrible headache. Other times I have not had to quite so badly. Sinus infections will not easily get better by themselves, they and a secondary bacterial infection, my gut would be to go with your gp, but ring and check up anyway. Hope you feel better soon, it is a real bummer.

Thanks Sparkle. I'll give them a try to clarify.

According to the Amoxycillin my DS has just been given, its 125mg 3x a day for kids and 250mg 3x a day for adults.

Hi, I'm sure you must have phoned your GP by now, but both doses are right. The 500mg is just a stronger dose used in more severe infections. 250mg is a milder dose. Both should work x
