I have been suffering for a couple of months and last week ended up at the A&E where the doctor agreed that it was probably gallstones causing the pain.
I have been having attacks daily now and really don't know what I can safely eat.
I have eliminated everything fried, sausages, becon, mince, pork, beef, all dairy, eggs, oily fish, etc.
I am living on toast with jam and rice crispies with soya milk as even butter on my toast or cow milk with breakfast cereal were causing me horrible pain.
I am due to see my GP on Wednesday and will not leave without a referral for an ultrasound (especially taking into consideration I have private medical so NHS wouldn't have to pay) and hopefully will have the op soon if it turns out it is gallstones.

But I still need to eat something in the meantime. I am not getting enough sleep as my DS is waking up lots, the attacks leave me completely drained and I am constantly hungry. You can tell I'm feeling sorry for myself :(

Gallbladder kindred spirits!! I'm dealing with all of this at the moment too. I had my first big attack after DS was born (he's nearly 4) but didn't know what it was. A&E thought indigestion. Then nothing until about three weeks ago when I had another hideous attack.

I've subsequently had fairly constant low level aches and pains in the usual places but there have also been times when I seem to be able to feel every inch of my intestines! For about ten days post attack I was also getting a less severe attack every day regardless of what I ate. So exhausting and very difficult with two DC including a 14 week old. I really feel the pain of everyone on here who's in a similar situation.

Anyway. Doctor has put me on ranitidine, buscopan, and diclofenac for the pain (I'm breastfeeding and this was the best they could come up with). Seems to be keeping things at bay, along with very very careful eating. I'm not pain free but it's manageable. I really hope I can keep it this way until scan etc. Scan is on 16 May. If it is gallstones then I really hope an op will be sooner rather than later but who knows!!

I'm actually doing ok with eating but i think that's largely necause I seem to be able to cope with a bit of heat. It's dairy and eating too much which seems to kick me off in a big way (little and often us my new mantra). I'm trawling the Internet for good recipes and making very active use of my spice rack and herb patch. Websites for slimming world and weight watchers are fab for low or no fat recipes incidentally. I made a great slimming world curry the other night with no fat at all. It helps that DH has decided that he's feeling a bit porky and is using it as an opportunity for him to lose weight too, so I don't feel like I'm eating bland nonsense while everyone else has steak and chips. So we're eating lots of chicken, fish, and seafood basically. Oh and snacks. Apples by the truckload, honey on toast, and jelly babies! I'm missing tea. I just can't seem to handle milk at all so am drinking lots of milkless earl grey which is fine but I'd kill for a proper brew!

So sorry you're all going through this too. It really is the most excrutiating pain and even the non-attack aches ate completely demoralising. Both my Grandmas had this and my Mam reckons my Grandma used to end up in bed for weeks at a tine when she was at her worst.

Sorry for all the typos! Trying to feed at the same time. Too many to correct.

Limelight I think it's eating too much that sets mine off too. I have been making lots of yummy homemade soup - cheap and healthy, can't go wrong! Still waiting for date for my scan. Hoped it would come this week

Reading with interest as I am currently having tests as have been experiencing similar symptoms. Another symptom I have is feeling full. I wake up and feel like I have just eaten...not in my stomach (it's growling) but in my throat. Does that make sense and sound familiar?

Limelight · 07/05/2011 19:31

buddhastic - I get that too. Like I've eaten and it gets stuck in my throat / upper abdomen for what seems like days!!

PS no fat smoked haddock and leek risotto last night. Slightly missed the Parmesan but not too much.

Thanks Limelight after reading this it appears as though I am getting off lightly as have only had one attack that put me in A and E. I went because of the radiating shoulder pain I couldn't breathe properly it was so sharp. They said after many tests I had sludge in my gall bladder and that may have been the cause but not conclusive. Lovely pethidine made it bearable! That was two years ago but recently have been having more and more 'little' attacks never to the same pain level (thankfully). I had an ultrasound on Thursday so hopefully they find something they can treat! I hope your ultra sound gives you a clear cut answer as to why your having so much pain. Good Luck will be watching to see how you get on.
