Neck lump

I have a lump on one side of my neck lower down near nape. Think it is a gland but it's been like that since new year. I thought when I first noticed it that I would wait a couple of weeks to see if it went by itself before seeing gp.

Stupidly I kind if forgot about and I've noticed it again and I'm panicking.

Any reassuring words please???

probably a gland.I have a lump on the side of my neck too, been there for 20 years so clearly fine.Did check with a Doc once as I got worried about it.Ask your GP if you are getting stressed ,just to put your mind at rest.

Is it on the side sort of in the middle? You usually have a few there, on each side. How big is it?

ConnorTraceptive · 05/03/2011 23:04

Yes on the side in the middlish. A bit bigger than pea size I'd say.

Ive had by lymph nodes took out of my kneck about 6yrs ago. The doctor said they can grow if you have an infection and wont shrink back down. Definately go to gp. I went and got refered to hospital for the removal and biopsy. You may be making yoursef worry for nothing. I was Smile

Oh, I've got several this size on both sides of my neck. They can get a bit bigger when I have a cold etc.

Nothing to worry about Smile

Mine is about half way down on the side too, must be the same gland.Mine feels pea-ish.

ConnorTraceptive · 05/03/2011 23:22

Mine were half way down neck and felt like a hard dried pea. I could of left mine. I got the choice to have removal and biopsy or to leave them. I had agonised over them for about a year so asked for them out once i had started the ball rolling for piece of mind. Your are left with a small scar on your neck though

dont ignore them as they can be more serious.please.

winnybella · 06/03/2011 23:21

Yes, but alypaly the pea-sized lymph nodes on the side of your neck are normal. Everyone has them.

Obviously if they grow, hurt etc you need to see the doctor.

OneWaySystemBlues · 07/03/2011 00:46

From personal experience, lumps that are pea sized, slightly tender, movable and don't grow are probably lymph glands that swell up when you have an infection. Lumps that are 'fixed', painless, and are bigger than a pea size need investigation as they can be more serious.

IngridBergmann · 07/03/2011 06:49

I would only worry if it had increased in size over this amount of time.

If it's still the same it's probably fine.

Good luck Connor.

PLEASE, please, please do not ignore this - get it checked by your GP.
