Has anyone ever suffered a fainting episode with tongue biting?

Hi all

I had a fainting episode in the night and while the episode occurred I had bit my tongue at the side and the front.

Been to the doctors today and they are only going to do blood tests next week and if normal will be put down as a simple faint but I really don't think this is enough and would really like to be Ix by a neurologist.

I also had an episode 7yrs ago but I had also lost bladder control in the episode.

I was really disappointed with the doctor today and was wondering if anyone had an experiemce like mine, what they had done and what the diagnosis was in the end?

Mmmm - I have a friend who when they sometimes faint ( eg cramp in night ,gets up v quickly or minor trauma from fall ) then has a fit .
Sounds like you had a fit and I guess you could then be treated for epilespy ( sp? ) .
But then if diagnosed won't you have to take horrible drugs and be banned from driving ?

I had a fit following a faint and saw a neurologist as I had been taken to hospital. Apparently it happens if there is also a lack of oxygen - position of falling for example, and is not an epileptic or organic problem. For peace of mind I can understand, but you would hope NOT to be dx with epilepsy surely? BTW am nt medical at all, so don't take the above as fact.

I am a chronic fainter, I have a 'neurocardiogenic syncope' diagnosis and have numerous symptoms that are not typical - this includes tongue biting, convulsions, incontinence. My episodes definitely are vasovagal syncope or 'simple faints' and I had a full work up.

No I wouldn't want to be diagnosed with epilepsy but I am very worried it might happen again when it's just me and DD as it took me about 20mins to get up and walk back to bed again. I would have prefered a full check up to make sure there is nothing underlying but is probably me over worrying.

It is reassuring to read your stories and to know that tongue biting/incontinence can happen with simple faints.

I just know my bloods tests will be normal next week and then nothing futher will happen with the doctors and it worries me as they can't diagnose certain conditions with a blood test.

Fainting......not sure why? Speak to GP for referal regarding
Vasovagal syncope..............often misdiagnosed as epilepsy...............
TILT TABLE TEST .............. is the definitive test for vasovagal synccope also known as Reflex Anoxic Syndrome........Check out this helpful website which also explains LONG QT which may be a reason for faints...........
