People with lower back pain, what kind of mattress do you have?

I have suffered from lower back pain for sometime now, bought on from a number of pregnancies including 2 sets of large twins.

It is mostly in the morning but once i am up and walking around everything seems to loosen and there is no pain for the rest of the day. It is then back in the evening after i have sat down for a while. I don't take painkillers as it's only hurting for a short amount of time.

I bought a tempa mattress 3 weeks ago, first week everything was fine but since then my back hurts all day, everyday. On Nurofen a lot, this morning is especially bad. It's the mattress isn't it?! It is medium/firm.

There is no pain at night and i sleep soundly on it without waking. DP isn't having any problems.

Will it get better with time do you think? should i persevere?? (actually not sure if i can, especially with children to be running around after).

What kind of mattress do you use? I think i might have to sleep on the couch tonight!

Anybody?

My dp has back problems and out memory foam mattress is brilliant for him.

Things that help him are sleeping with a pillow between his knees, and (this has been a huge help) on the advice of his physiotherapist, getting up in the morning, walking about for a few minutes, then going back to bed for a bit. This sounds bonkers, but he really notices the difference if he doesn't.

I second the pillow between the knees, made a huge difference (I sleep on my side).

That sounds like a plan, i have never tried that. I am going to send DP out for more pillows! Thank-you!

Carry on with your mattress. Bought Tempur mattress in November and for the first few weeks was calling myself an arse for spending so much money on a rubbish mattress. Now love it and really feel the difference if I sleep somewhere else. I also have a pillow between my knees.

Thanks labrador, thats what i was worried about. I was thinking could this actually be doing my back some good....lining my spine up better and then eventually my whole back could be better (my other mattress was appalling with springs sticking out, but not causing this pain). Then i was thinking perhaps i am doing extra damage!!!

I will persevere and try the pillow between legs as i do sleep on my side.

Has any of you or your partners tried the heat belts that i have seen advertised? I am tempted to buy one but wondering if they are worth the money?
