Ear ache

Coming to the end of a cold and I'm in agony with ear ache. It came on all of a sudden a few hours ago but is so painful, my hearing in that ear is a bit dull too. It feels like cabin pressure in an aeroplane, that type of sharp searing pain.
Ear infection likely? does anyone have any good remedies to get me through the night?...bloody hell it's sore...

hot water bottle - apply it to the area of pain.

get well soon :)

Poor you - definitely sounds like an ear infection. Agree with the hot water bottle suggestion.

Take ibuprofen and paracetamol - alternating between the two every two hours to keep the pain at bay. It's the only way you'll get through the night.

Has your ear started leaking yet? That's really uncomfortable, but a good sign that the fluid that has built up behind your eardrum is being released, and you will soon get over the ear infection (hopefully without having to take antibiotics).

Good luck.

Thanks to you both I've got a warm cloth on it, don't want to wake DD rummaging around for my hwb, but it is helping a bit. No leaking, good grief it's sore. DD just out of a horrible run of things, including ear infections, she didn't complain as much as I am now!

Not had earache since i was a child. My mum would put a few drops of warm oil
in our ears back then, not sure if that's recommended these days...

My mum used to put warm olive oil in my ears when I had ear infections as a child - not sure why, though, or that I'd give it a go now....!

Hope you get through the night OK, and feel better in the morning.
