how to get rid of lingering cough / wheezy chest ?

I have had a cough/cold/wheezy chest for at least a week now and don't seem to be able to shift it. The cold comes and goes but its the wheezy chest that bothers me, especially at night.

Sometimes it feels like its (the mucus on my chest I guess) breaking up a bit when i cough but other times I can just cough and cough with nothing happening.

Is there much point in nipping into a local chemist to see if they advise any cough medicine or anything like that to help my chest ?? Or am I correct in thinking that they will just send me away telling me it will work its own way out of my system?

See your GP or nurse practitioner.

It could be viral wheeze, or it could be asthma, or it could be a chest infection.

Either way it needs assessment; you may benefit from having an inhaler and possibly antibiotics and steroids.

(PS cough medicines are next to useless so I would save your money)

Would agree to see your GP, we all had lingering coughs after chest infections/flu over xmas and have got better after short course of steroids

No have never had asthma before but will see GP then to get it sorted.
