Threadworms for the first time.....!!

Hi.

I'm actually looking for a bit of reassurance please? My DS and I have both somehow caught threadworms, and I can't stop freaking out! I am aware that it is a common thing and that my DS was bound to catch them at one point or another, but I have OCD about cleanliness, and I turn into this teary, crazy person when faced with parasitic invasions of any sort. Anyway, we have both taken a dose of Mebendazole and I have scrubbed everything that I have managed to get my hands on. However, I then made the fatal (and rather silly!) mistake of researching how long it takes Vermox to work, and came across many horror stories about it not working and/or it taking years to clear up!

So, please, if anyone has dealt with worms in one fell swoop - would you mind telling me? I am in desperate need of reassurance!

Thank you

they are grim, the medicine should kill teh buggers in teh next 48 hours. in the meantime wear knickers in bed and wash bums first thing in the morning to stop eggs spreading. take another dose of medicine in 2 weeks.

stop googling or you will be forced to burn your house to the ground

When DCs were younger here we had them. Vermox worked with no problem, so dont worry, you will probably have forgotten about it in a few weeks, but dont forget to take the second dose to make sure no eggs are left.

Second the stop googling!!

Yep.....I did consider it in the wee hours of this morning Wink

Thank you!

DD1 and DD2 seem to get them every few months. Probably because DD2 is a thumb sucker even at school.
Like others have said, don't forget the 2nd dose and all should be fine (until the next time!)
I personally would rather deal with thread worms than headlice. Much easier to get rid of!

I had threadworms, no-one else had them though. And they are very common. They have been around for thousands of years as well.

Ovex will get rid of them but everyone in your family needs one tablet to start with and then another precisely two weeks later.

Also do not look at your poo after passing it particularly a couple of days after taking the ovex tablet. The female worms are bigger than the males and these will be killed immediately once you take the ovex tablet. These are then passed out through your waste product (they can be seen as longer threads).

Sitting yourself in hot water in the bath immediately after you get up will kill any eggs that have been laid around the anus the night before. I did that daily for two weeks. Do wear knickers in bed and wash pjs as often as humanely possible (daily is good). Keep fingernails short. Wash bedding at 60 degrees plus.

You will get rid of them but it helps to do the above as well.

Separate towels are also a must.

Thank you. It's wonderful to hear from others who are calm about the whole thing - I really appreciate it! Smile
