Got horrible infection in stiches from op a week ago and feeling very miserable

Had a gynae op last week (keyhole surgery). Bikini line and belly button stitches not dissolved and very red, raw and pus coming out. Plus smells a bit whiffy. Incredibly painful - not just the stitches sight themselves, but inside, I feel like I am being wrenched inside my stitches, iyswim. Went to drive to the docs earlier, hurt to change gear.

Dr has signed me off for another week, taken swabs and bloods and says it really hasn't healed at all (I also have raised temp). She also commented on the smell - she scared me to death saying they would test for MRSA. What the hell would that mean? Plus my stomach is all bloated and I look 4 months gone.

I am starting a new job in a few weeks and just want to get well, am feeling very down just want to get better.

Oh I don't know I am just moaning.

i swear by neat tea tree oil for wounds, getorf, but i know that is strong meds for some people. also savlon do a spray that i used post op, and hairdryer dried.

Thanks aitch - yes have got spray savlon stuff, which is great. Haven't hairdried it though - have just been blowing hard towards my tummy (which hasn't worked very well, admittedly Grin)

i second the blowdrying of wound (as you do)... did this when i had a couple of laparoscopies. worth taking some arnica tablets too. tis shite having wound infection.

AitchTwoOh · 21/02/2011 10:48

thanks to my extravagant use of undilute tea tree i have never had a wound infection, and i've had four abdo wounds inc a cs. [smug] [unhelpful]

i do hope you're feeling better, GOML, it sounds miserable.
