Operation cancellation list

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has taken a cancellation for an operation for themself or DC and if so how late notice was it?

I am contemplating asking about going on a cancellation list if there is one for an operation I am due to have.

I took up a cancellation for a hernia op. they phoned me on a Friday, I had pre op monday and op on the thursday of the next week. HTH

Thanks KurriKurri, that sounds like reasonable notice for a cancellation. I think I could do it with two or three days notice (or more) but would struggle if it was the next day.

I think they need to allow time for you to have the pre op check up, and get results back from things like the MRSA swab etc. I don't think they'd ever call you in next day Smile

Excellent, in that case I think I will go ahead. I guess I can always decline if necessary.

How much time did you save by taking the cancellation? I assume all went well Smile

Yes all went well thankyou Smile I was due to have my op this month, instead I had it at the beginning of November.

The nice thing is you don't have as much time to get nervous!

Meant to say - I only saw the consultant on 30th sept. so was very pleased with the speed of it all.

Well you have sold it to me Wink. Im waiting for an anterior repair and have been told it will be 2-3 months so not terrible but it's now all I can think about and I find it stressful.
One more question if you don't mind, Had you received your date for your op when you were offered the cancellation? I wonder if I did nothing how long I would wait for my date to come through. I hate not knowing what is going on and when it's going to be.

No I hadn't been given a date, just been told 'it'll probably be in February'

The date for the op usually IME (from other ops) comes through 2-3 weeks before you have it, so you won't hear for a little while I don't think.

I agree it's stressful waiting and also you need to arrange how you're going to manage while you are recovering.

I hope it all goes well for you anyway Meg, and you get your cancellation Smile

Thank you Smile
