This morning the children were being delightfully screamy and instead of yelling at them I slammed the dryer door. My thumb was in it :( I have really fucked it. The damage is at the end of my nail, it has splintered and there are loose shards of it but still attached to the nail bed. If they move about it really hurts not to mention makes me feel sick (I nearly passed out when I saw it and I am usually made of iron!) It is still bleeding a little and I did it at 8 this morning. I have changed the dressing and put a bit of germolene on it, but it feels really gross, like the shards are rubbing against one another and not sitting right.
Do I leave it? Can I leave it wrapped up until it heals sufficiently to clip the sharp jagged bits down/off? Do i have to go to A&E? The thought of somebody poking and manhandling it or worse, having to trim the broken bits off, is nearly giving me a panic attack, really, I was fine until I thought of that but now I'm in tears :(

Bumping because I want to know if I should go to hospital or if they'll laugh at me. Or touch it. Shudder.

I did a very similar thing this morning but mine was in a door jamb. It is bloody agony so I don't know how you have hung on this long. You need to go to hospital I'm afraid, I did this morning. They won't laugh at you, I promise. They will need to touch it I'm afraid but in my case they were very gentle and careful. They will also give you some strong painkillers first if you need them. You may also need an xray, I did, just to check I hadn't chipped the bone, because if you have then you will need anti-biotics.

Be strong and go to hospital, it will only get worse if you don't. Have you got anyone you can take with you??

DH is due back sometime soon, though he'd have to drop me off and come back as DD2 is here. (DD1 not back til later).
Did they cut bits of broken nail off or did they just wrap it up? Poor you too! At least it's sunny eh :)

They didn't cut mine but the damage is right down at the nail bed. They couldn't see if the nail itself is broken because the flesh around it is a bit of a mess so they just cleaned it up as best they could and put a dressing on. I'm now just freaking out about when I have to take the dressing off as I have a feeling the nail may come with it.
Good luck, hope it goes ok
