How long do you expect a cold to last

I guess this is a run of colds. My DD is heading for 3 weeks. How long should I leave it before seeing the GP. She coughs in the morning and her nose is streaming. Teeth are coming and she isnt eating well (Except 2 days a week at nursery)

i took my dd2 to the dr as she had a cold for weeks too. he listened to her chest, which was fine, clear, and he said not to worry as colds can last a while due to their tubes being so small, and mucus can bung them up (or something like that)

if you are worried then take her to dr so he can listen to her chest, they wont mind

I thought it was getting worse but then it seems a little better than it was so Im more inclined to wait. Its a nightmare trying to get seen at my GP practice. If it is still bad I will have to take her on Monday now.

My ds3 had a run of colds that meant he was almost permanently bunged up/coughing throughout the first year of his life. Honestly, it was more or less constant. He had three older siblings to infect him and I suppose your dd must be being infected by her contacts at nursery. I would only worry about it if she seems unwell in herself - miserable, wingeing, not eating, not putting on weight. Little ones often don't eat well when they are teething which might be the reason yours isn't.

But at the end of the day, you are her mother and if you are worried, make the effort to see the doctor (it is usually easier if you are making an appointment for a baby - they tend to see them quicker than they do adults). The worst that can happen is that they will say you didn't need to come in which case you learn for the next time! Parenting is one huge learning curve I find!
