Immune system shot to bits... what can I do?

In the past month I have had two really nasty colds (a week each) and a tummy bug. None of the rest of the family has had any of these, and I do have a weakened immune system due to a chronic condition.

I get shingles about once a year and the last month has made me think that there must be something I can do to improve my rather poor immunity.....

BUT WHAT?!?!?

Grateful for any ideas.

BTW, I eat a balanced diet of home cooked food, not much junk, lots of fresh food, fruit and veg, some wine... Absolutely no take aways or ready meals.

Is there anything you can do to improve the chronic condition you allude to?

I would say exercise actually might help you. Difficult when you feel like shit I agree, but it would be positive. You could also try a holiday if you can wangle it. Somewhere hot where you do bugger all for two weeks.

Enough sleep-7-8 hours.
Long walks are very good. You don't need to wrap yourself too much as long as you walk fast.
Exercise as wmmc says.
Raw vegetables will have more vitamins than cooked ones- also I'm a firm believer in onion and garlic. Also red meat for iron.
You could also have a blood test to see whether you're lacking any vitamins as some are essential to good immune system.
Also stress is bad and can make you more susceptible to infections.

Hmm. Thanks ladies.
The exercise thing is hard - I have major back problems (double back surgery!) plus a slipped disc in my neck, though I walk my dog most days.. running is out of the question, so walking is the best i can manage.

As for stress - I am mid "Grand Design" as it were, but it's not unduly stressful, just quite busy and I am not doing anything stupid like living in a caravan on site or anything.. life is not particularly stressful, no more than normal!

The chronic condition - I've had it for 35 years, it's largely under control, just buggers up my immune system. Though even by my standards, the last month has been very bad for bugs!

I think I need some kind of supplements, or something, just to boost me, as I do eat pretty sensibly, though the raw veg thing I like - hadn't really thought of that and I do like raw veg.

AB this winter I have had a shocking amount of colds. Have a 1 year old who picks up something new every week and so I have had a permanent cold/cough for about 3 months. It's shit, and I eat well, go to the gym etc. So maybe this year is just particularly bad for illnesses? Who knows. It seems a new ailment every day or so for the 4 of us here.
