Help with teething. Swollen gum

My ds2 who is 16 months old has some back teeth coming through. I just noticed tonight that one area of gum (near where the tooth is coming I think) is very swollen. I don't remember this ever happenning with ds1. IS this normal or could it be an infection? He is quite under the weather at the moment, but I though it was just a cold.

It could just be where the tooth is just beneath the gum or it could be what is called an eruption cyst (impossible to say without actually seeing for myself). tbh if you are concerned make an apptto see your dentist and get it checked out. The back teeth are much bigger than the others so generally cause more aggrevation when they come through.

Well, I don't know how long. I only noticed it tonight. I think I may take him to the GP tomorow a I am sure a swollen gum can't be right.

Try Nurofen for children. Will reduce swelling, if baby is still under the weather take him and have it checked out. Try Nurofen for a day though to give it a chance to reduce the swelling. Might just be the teeth.

nurofen won't reduce this kind of swelling, but will make things more comfortable

For hot swollen gums Arnica 30 is brilliant. Crush a pill to powder between two spoons and rub on gum if its the right remedy it will work very quickly. Plus its safe to take with other stuff. If there are other symptoms with the gums like fever or earache he may need a different remedy. hope hes ok.
