DD, now just hit 17 months, went for her first dentist appointment today. She didn't get her first teeth until she was 13 months old and even then it was the 'wrong' ones - her top teeth. Infact, although she now has 7 teeth' she has still never got her two bottom middle teeth at all.
Although the dentist stressed that there is nothing to worry about he is going to refer her to the dental hospital to x-ray and check there, to see if they have ever developed in the first place. He did seem positive that even if these two milk teeth aren't present it is no more likely to be that the adult teeth won't be there than normal, soit shouldn't be a future problem.
Mind, it does mean she will be two teeth short for the tooth fairies! So they can save some pennies
On a serious note though, has anyone here heard of this? Dentist did think it might be hereditery but I don't know of anyone else in the families with this.
