vaginal cones and pg?

CrawlingInMySkin · 04/02/2011 17:32

I have been advised to continue using a vaginal cone while pg even though advice on the box is not to.

Can anyone tell me why you are advised against using them while pg? TIA for any answers.

AFAIK, it is because there is a chance that the cones could introduce an infection.

My physio said to stop for that reason anyway. Who is advising that you continue? Could be a risk/benefit thing?

Thank you my physio advised she is worried about the effect my weak pelvic floor will cause, and is concerned I will become irreversibly incontinent if I dont strenthen my pelvic floor before I give birth.

Sorry to hear that Sad. I had mild continence issues (coughing/trampolines!) after the birth of DC1. Certainly things got worse whilst I was pregnant with DC2 - had two bad chest infections and was going through pads like there was no tomorrow. I have to say though that things are no worse after a relatively easy 2nd VB.

I'd say if your physio is advising it then I might go for it - just being extra scrupulous about hygeine. All other pelvic floor exercises are safe/advised in pregnancy so IM(unqualified)O it sounds like she is talking sense.

Good luck with your pregnancy Smile

Thanks I actually had good births (ds was back to back and born without turning with his hand up by his head,) But I didnt tear and was walking within minutes and my physio said I should have physio to deal with the muscle having stretched that much to not tear in such a circumstance. But I didnt and had DC2 before it had repaired and that is what damaged it, even though her birth was perfect and no tears.

Quite annoying that if I had been reffered like I should have none of this would be a problem. Thanks alot for your help I think I will go with the physio and be careful about cleanliness Smile
