High blood pressure Update

Hi
I had a thread two weeks ago about my blood pressure being high & i have had the 24 hour monitor put on last week & was told i would get the results the next day[Friday] but when i phoned the next day i was told the doctor needed to check over the results & they would be in touch , they took my mobile number /house number etc but didn't call . I didn't want to be a PITA so waited until this morning to call & once again ask for the results & have just been told i was due to start on medication last Friday as my bp is too high & could i come down to the surgery today to pick up the prescription Hmm all said in a panicky tone . Apparently my GP has left a prescription at the receptionist desk for me but tbh i would have liked to see him & have him talk to me about any side effects as i was once put on meds years ago for high BP & took me almost a year to find ones that suited me & didn't cause dizziness/nausea / headaches & have ask to be put on those tablets this time if i needed them but just been told Ive been given different meds . Should i ask to see the doctor or just start on these meds ?
TIA x

Yes you should ask to see the doctor. There are lots of different bp meds and he might prescribe something else.

Hi Elmo :) ...yes agree, you need to see your Doctor, especially as you have had reactions to previous BP drugs, I was the same, so know from experience the side effects can be pretty awful, so its even more important that you get the right ones & they know (rememberHmm that you are prone to side effects....took me a while to find the right one for me too, but despite HBP not being meant to have much in the way of symptoms, the one they've finally got me on has actually improved a few other health problems too, my Sinus problems for example, but it took my seeing my GP & making sure she kept of top of sorting out a drug that DID suit me, & had a few scares along the wayHmm

so as you've had problems before, I would definitely recommend NOT just taking the drugs, based on my doing just that for the same not wanting to be a PITA reasons, & ending up in A&E as a result

so DO be a PITA, its your health at stake here....good luck

Thanks belgo & Rockinhippy

I took your advice & rang my surgery back & have asked for an appointment to see the doctor to discuss the medication so i now have an appointment for tomorrow morning but i reckon the doctor won't be too happy that i want answers as he is an ignorant so & so at the best of times , but it took me 10 months of trying different tablets the last time to find one that suited me & like you rockin some of the side effects were terrible i even developed vertigo from some of them so i can't risk driving the dc's to school & feeling like that again Sad
Shock & Sad that you have gone through all of this & that you ended up in hospital , thats horrible . How is your BP now ?

my BP is well controlled now :),

it was a drug that leached the pottasium from my system that had me in A&E, with a suspected heart attack (can't remember name, but it was VERY long) though it turned out to be a panic attacked caused by low pottasium,.....got to admit though its given me new sympathy & respect for people who suffer with panic attacks, FAR worse than I ever realisedShock
I've had vertigo with another & worsening of other symptoms with a different 1

I now take Aprovel, though whether that is suitable for you will depend on exactly what your kidney problems have been as its contraindicated with Kidney disease....... they have been checking my own Kidney function regularly though, as I have damage on mine too, & so far alls good :)

Shock That must have been a very scary time for you rockin , i didn't realize that bp meds could do that much damage . Glad you are doing well now x
I used to take Atenolol & found them to be ok - so i was hoping to be put back on them this time . Dh is going to come in to see the doctor with me as the gp can be very abrupt & tends to be nicer if there is another person in the room with me Do you still go for regular BP checks?
