Gastroenteritis advice needed

I'm looking for a bit of advice and maybe a bit of 'yes, that happened to me and I was fine'.

I had a nasty bug last Wed/Thu. Lots of stomach cramps and dramatic wailing and crying (from me, a grown up, apparently). I couldn't eat on Thursday or Friday. I took things gently over the weekend. Went back to work today and felt like a ghost - feel very insubstantial.

I worked out that I'm not getting more than about 800 calories a day. If I eat, then the stomach cramps start to come back. If I don't eat, I don't have any energy. What should I be doing to feel better?

were you sick or just the cramps?

Lucy - no vomiting - I'm pretty phobic, but diarrhoea - five times in about an hour and a half.

I had this a few months ago, and just had to brazen it out for about 5 days. I sipped Lucozade to get some calories into me, but that is about all I could manage. Cleared up by itself after a week or so.

That's just what I needed to hear. Will stop thinkning about eating as little as possible and will think about nice gentle calories - thanks.

Hi, my DD has had problems like this on & off for a few years now, consequently I've had to learn how best to cope with it & ease symptoms, also had it confirmed by her gastro Dr & dietitian that I am doing all the right things

basically you need to "bulk out stools" with simple carbs such as white rice, even white pasta, bread etc, & avoid any roughage foods, so no veg, fruit, juice etc...drink lots of fluids, but stick with squashes....NO sugar free stuff either as will make it worse still & & apple juice surprisingly is the worst juice, as the type of sugar it contains is causes loose stools

you'll need to up your electrolytes too, so take diarolyte or similar, you'll be losing tissue salts with the diareah, & they need replacing to stop dehydration...dehydration also causes diareah

if you can't eat much at all, white rice is the best by far & adding a tea spoon of tumeric to the cooking water will make it better still...its used in Asian countries apparently for gastro problems...& full fat coke & ready salted crisps will give you electolytes

hope that makes sense...dealing migraine so probably a bit garbledConfused

Yes, that makes perfect sense, thank you. I'm actually starting to feel a bit positive again.
