Have I got a chest infection?

Never had one before, certainly never had abs for anything to do with my chest, so am not sure whether to go to doc or not.

Anyways, symptoms are (some with tmi): started a cold last Thursday, usual drill, not a particularly bad one.

Here we are on day 5 and I am coughing a lot and it hurts my chest. It feels hot and burning in the middle of my chest and round at the back of my lungs. I sort of have to stop and gather up the courage to cough and the pain is making my eyes water. What I am coughing up is not pleasant and rather snotty (sorry TMI) and there is a distant taste of blood in my mouth after coughing.

That all sounds pretty bad, but all the rest of my cold symptoms have gone! Do I need GP?

Yes, you need a GP. Nobody can diagnose you over the net.

AnyFuleKno · 31/01/2011 21:33

yes it's probably a chest infection bibs, get thee to a doctor!

KatyMac · 31/01/2011 21:34

Yep (IMO)

What colour are you coughing up - if it's clear you probably haven't got a chest infection but anything from yellow through green to brown & you need a GP

And the distant taste of blood is possibly little blood vessels that have burst due to coughing so much. I hope you feel better soon.

Hmmm, I thought I would feel iller with a chest infection. Am fine apart from when am coughing!

You might just have pulled a muscle but you need to see a GP to be certain

AnyFuleKno · 31/01/2011 21:43

you're in pain, and coughing up SNOT. That is not normal.

If you don't get it sorted it could drag on for ages, trust me.
