What does hypothyroidism feel like?

I seem to have a lot of the symptoms and my stupid delightful gp hasn't suggested a blood test, so I was going to phone tomorrow to request one.

Please could somebody give me an idea of how it feels?

I can only tell you what it felt like for me.

extreme tiredness, like your bones are tired

a sense of feeling slowed up, like your legs are really heavy

depression

cold

weight gain, or difficulty in losing it

I thought it was due to sleep deprivation because I had a young baby but once I was on the meds I realised that there was a difference between being very tired in a normal sort of way and tired in a 'hypothyroidy' way. And it was this limb heaviness and total apathy that was the difference.

Does your brain feel like it's being slowed down as well?

Yes, definitely.

Good luck with it.

An odd thing my DH noted originally and when he has on a couple of occasions needed his dose upped, is aching Achilles tendons.

For me it was being so tired I used to take children to school and come home and lay on the sofa. Also weight gain and feeling freezing cold. I went to GP a few times before he did a blood test. I think my advice would be to insist on having a blood test.
