THREE WEEK OLD - CHESTY COLD advice needed

Hi all, my DS is just over three weeks old and is making some very strange noises at night. His breathing sounds very 'phlemghy (SP!)' and dry and he snuffles for almost an hour before dropping off to sleep. He also sneezes quite a lot. He doesn't seem to put out by these symptoms, but for us, his parents, it's heartbreaking hearing him seemingly struggle to breath. This usually happens at night. I've taken him to the doctors this morning and he's given him some antibiotic drops, but I'm reluctant to use them because I don't want him to be building up resistance to antibiotics so early in his life. AM I being stupid? Does anyone have any other suggestions for easing DS's breathing or should I just give him the antibiotics? Sorry if this sounds silly, but I've only been a mum for three weeks! Many thanks in advice xx

Try some snuffle babe - good chemist should have some which you can dab on his baby grow - it has mild olbas oil in it so helps them breathe. On the ABs you'll know if you think you need them - even a new mum knows best !
