No voice for a week

Anyone any ideas what it could be or even better how to make it come back?

I lost my voice last week, very painful etc went to the GP who said I had tonsilitis and gave me a course of antibiotics. I feel fine now except still having very little voice.

I have never lost my voice for more than a day or two before and now its getting annoying. Is it usual for it to last so long?

happened to my ds recently, it was at least a week, he didnt have any other unwell symptoms, I fed him zinc, milk with butter, honey & ginger and herbal cough sweets. Eventually it led to a cough and has now gone. Advice here was to try and not to strain the voice, speak or even whisper which may have helped.

oh yes and keep hydrated
