dp has an infection and the dentist will not extract it til infections gone. I know he is in alot of pain. He has several painkillers and I think he has lost count of what and when should be taken. He has been scouring the net for miracle cure. The kids have been sent out of the way to watch Transformers. Please advise a very tired and worn out pretend nurse......

Paramol is good - the pharmacist will only give you 3 days worth and you have to convince them you need it, but its good stuff. Its like paracetamol & codeine, but instead of codeine it has something stronger 9and more addictive!)

Oh, and (courtesy of DH) neat whisky, savoured ie kept in the mouth for a bit rather than gulped. He swears it has antiseptic properties, and it certainly reduces the pain.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/01/2011 19:25

I take it he's on antibiotics to clear up the infection? strongest painkillers he can get hold off! Poor bugger. Toothache is a dreadful pain.

shatteredmumsrus · 27/01/2011 19:25

thankyou we have paramol. Can you take ibuprofen with it?
for your dh we cleared the rinks cupboard and only have my Malibu and Archers left, shall I make him a cocktail? It might keep him quiet

OP posts:
shatteredmumsrus · 27/01/2011 19:26

drinks nor rinks!

Clove oil. Tastes foul, but it really helps. Buy it at the chemist or supermarket. Put some on a cotton bud and bathe the area with it.

nickytwotimes · 27/01/2011 19:30

paramol has dihydracodeine in it.
you can take ibuprofen too.
really though with that level of pain he needs Proper Full Strength painkillers, either full strength cocodamol or diyddracodeine or tramadol from gp or dentist in the morning. poor bugger!

shatteredmumsrus · 27/01/2011 19:30

thankyou bellavita il try it. well he will try it

and bloody dentist should've given him some while he was there. they often keep them on the premises for people like your poor dh

shatteredmumsrus · 27/01/2011 19:36

I know the dentist told him to get some from the chemist! Im gonna ring them in the morning, he got a bill for £20 and the extraction is £90. Im not gonna get into it on here but its so unfair we both work and are skint like the rest of us but wouldnt have to pay if we werent working. He has lready lost 2 days pay for not going in cause of his tooth. Sorry rant over. Thanks for advice anymore or have I annoyed you know?...........

Gargle with dilute hydrogen peroxide - tastes like licking a mangy foxes arse but if it can get to the infection will oxidise the bacteria and that should help.

nickytwotimes · 27/01/2011 19:37

god, no, not annoyed at all!

tooth pain is rotten

bellavita · 27/01/2011 19:54

shattered, the clove oil costs peanuts.

I have had my fair share of tooth pain so I can sympathise.

shatteredmumsrus · 27/01/2011 20:06

Roasting hot water and salt. Hot as he can bear it.

lucybrad · 28/01/2011 09:36

when I had a had abscess once I found holding cold water in my mouth over the area helped temporalily, but another time I had an abscess this didnt work. Worth a try. Clove oil didnt help me, neither did whiskey! Solphadiene (sp) which is paracetamol and codeine was the strongest I could get. I managed to get something stronger from the doctor. Hope the antibiotics work soon.

Karia · 28/01/2011 13:19

Seconding that soluble solpadeine max is amazing stuff, it works really quickly too. Hope your DP gets better soon. :)

southeastastra · 28/01/2011 13:21

when i had this i used nurofen with codeine plus paracetamols. was the worst pain in the universe but will hopefully subside in a while, also hot water rinses
