Can anyone advise what happens I have a few lumps which I know I should get checked out but I am so scared of how to get them out, any tips like the smear test skirt but for boobs? Doesn't help they go down to my belly button without support, is their any way to make this examination easier? I even thought of taking photos to show her so I can keep my clothes on.

HI Mini it's really important to have them checked. Just go along and the Dr will gently feel them with the flat of her hand. If she is concerned she will send you to the breast specialist. Don't worry about Dr seeing your breasts, I'm sure they have seen hundreds of very odd shaped breasts. This is a very easy non invasive test, just go and get it over with then you can stop worrying about it.

Oh,no, please don't worry about it.

Doctors will have seen everything.

They feel for lumps and if they find some that they deem suspicius , they send you off for ultrasound.

It doesn't hurt, they just gently run they hands over your breasts.

Go, don't wait, please.

Another one who says go. I would have 4000 breast examinations compared to one smear.
Breasts are breasts, they don't vary greatly except for size.
Don't let your embarrassment get in the way. Please.

Thank you all, I am still terrified and ashamed, fairly long history of self harming which makes the thought of removing clothes even worse. I will try & find a bit of courage. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

HI Mini

Just explain to the doctor your concerns when you arrive I'm sure they will look after you.

mini26 · 27/01/2011 21:13

Thank you, I have made an appointment I just hope I can explain what I want to say and not just come out with a pill prescription.

well done mini - if you think you might find it hard to say what you want, why not write it down and give it to the doctor ? They will have seen so many differently shaped bits of bodies that they won't be making any judgements in that way about yours -they will just be concentrating on gently feeling for anything (flat of the hands, kind of rolling motion)

I am hugely shy about my body and have managed to show my gp all kinds of embarrassing bits over the years. I am still very shy about uncovering my breasts for exams but it is so,so important that you do go.
If you want any hand holding and encouragement nip over the the tamoxifen thread !
