Hair thinning

I am 38 and have had 3 kids. I never had the best hair, it's always been very fine, but I used to have a full head of it. SInce my 3rd in 2006, I have been having problems growing it, because it seems to be that it grows very thick at the roots, like re-growth, and then gets thin around 2 inches in. I've been growing it for around 8 months and it has grown about 1 inch. I have various theories:

  1. the mirena coil is preventing it from growing thick
  2. post-pregnancy hormones and breast feeding have destroyed it forevermore
  3. I blow dry it every day and the heat is causing it to break But does anyone have experience of my theory no. 1? I read online that hair thinning can happen, but getting my coil removed is a pretty risky decision... My hairdresser said for about 2 years " Don't worry, it'll thicken up as your kids get older, it's the fact that you had 3 kids so close together etc" But recently he asked me if I might consider seeing a dr about it, because it doesn't seem to be doing what he hoped. All I know is, the roots are very thick, and then it gets very thin. Advice much appreciated

You could ask the GP, to rule out things like hypothyroidism or diabetes.
