Mastectomy site itch

I have a 5 year old mastectomy scar. I wasn't allowed didnt have reconstruction as too fatBlush so just have a minimal amount of flesh in the area. I had quite intensive radiotherapy which has left darkened and speckled skin over the entire area from clavicle to bottom of ribs.
Besides that there have been no problems and I have annual check ups as I am taking part in a trial.

But recently I have noticed that I have an intense itch every evening. It is in a specific area and not widespread nor varying. It does coincide with where my bra ends but I have had this bra for some time and had no problems until now.

Anyone else had such an itch .Im thinking it could still be nerves regrowing ? Maybe?

I dont want to bother the BC nurses unnecessarily.

Bumping for you Smile

And personally, I would 'bother' the BC nurses anyway, because they wouldn't mind at all and know how important peace of mind is!

I have exactly the same thing SrStanislaus - my scar is two and a half years old and some evenings it is incredibly itchy, I have mentioned it to my oncologist but he didn't seem very interested! I'm going to bring it up again at my next appointment in a few weeks.

I wondered if it was a side effect of the radiotherapy, my chest is still noticeably red, or maybe it's just that scars do itch. (I have an old abdominal scar and that itches occasionally too.)

If you are worried I would give the BC nurses a ring just to set your mind at rest. (If I get any answers at my next appointment I'll post them here Smile)

Ring the BCN - thats what they are there for!

I meant to add - my itch cannot be eased by scratching, it feels almost as if it's inside the skin if that doesn't sound too odd.

Oh thank you all for replying.Grin

I had convinced myself that this was such a non subject that no one would even look.

KurriKurri I do still have a great deal of redness from Radiotherapy and regularly have a good old scratch when taking off my bra at night .Blush (but it is bliss sometimes )

This itch is in a more specific area though which sets alarm bells .

I will phone the BCN and ask her opinion. I might combine a visit with a new boob fitting. My stick on is becoming stick-less!!
