Severe neck strain

I have just returned from casualty and have been told I have a severe neck sprain. Given DF's and thats about it. Any one know hoow best to manage the pain and speed up recovery? I am in agony.

Yes. Go and see a chiropractor. Anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen) will help as well.

Its a muscular tear. I don't think a chiropractor could help.

Ahh, sorry. Arnica (from the health shop)usually helps muscles to heal a little quicker. How did you do it?

Lavender wheat bag that you heat up in microwave and then wrap round your neck.
Learnt about these at work many years ago when I had a cricked neck and physic told me about them.

I was told (with whiplash) to use ice/cold for pain relief and healing for first 3 or so days, then to switch to heat - so wheatbag/hot water bottle etc.

Ibuprofen helps with inflammation, so I had that as well as what hospital gave me. It has taken time, so am having physio now, weeks later to help recovery as other muscles now affected for me.

Hope pain relief works.

Thanks all. Still in agony and doctor has confirmed its a sever muscle tear. Taking own body weight in pain relief and have wheat pillow permanently attached to my neck!
