My ds is 1 in a few weeks. I am still bf and I have had no period since having him. Is this normal? With dd I did not have one for 9mths but this seems quite a long time without one now. Def not pg!

Are you still doing any night feeds? I always thought it was something to do with that?

I wish my periods would come back (DD is 9 months and I want to try for number 2 soon) - but she is still having night feeds so assumed that was why?

Sorry - I don't know basically, but am interested!

Scootergrrrl · 20/01/2011 21:39

Am the same. The link to night-feeding would make sense for my 10-month-old milk monster (yawn)

zen1 · 20/01/2011 22:02

Mine came back the week my DS was 1 - and I was still doing night feeds till he was 18 months. I think it depends how often you feed (how many feeds per day)and hormone levels.

missmartha · 21/01/2011 00:19

I didn't have periods for several months when I breast fed my kids.

What ever you do, don't rely on breast feeding as a contraceptive.

I know you wont.

A few weeks doesn't sound unusual though. Obviously if you're worried, take a test.

TheAllNewOoooh · 21/01/2011 00:29

I stopped BF my DS at 13 months and my period came back a week later. Our bodies can be amazingly efficient!

mummynumnum · 21/01/2011 18:28

I still do night feeds so assume like some of you they will come back when stop bf. In hosp other week for op and had to do a pg test. Was dreading result bring positive even though new no real chance of being pg.

DS was nearly 2, DD 14 months so a year not that long.

hoomach · 21/01/2011 18:59

Not unusual but, as others say, never assume that means you can't get pregnant. If you want to that's fine; if not use some contraception!

mummynumnum · 21/01/2011 20:19

I think I have confused people. Not pg, don't want to be pg and I do use contraception. My question was ds is a yr old and periods not returned yet and been bf and wondered if this was normal.

yes-it is normal-my eldest is 4.6 and youngest is 15 months- i have not had a period since eldest was conceived. yoouungest is still breastfeed- i thhink i read somewhhere that they return if regularly there is a 9 hour gap beteen breastfeeds'

twofornow · 22/01/2011 12:51

On dd1 my period came back after 5 months, shortly after she dropped her middle-of-the-night feed.

On dd2 it came back when she was 11 months old - she was still feeding in the night but it coincided with a lack of interest in feeding during the day.

Definitely normal.

DollyPantsJollyPants · 22/01/2011 12:51

No one tells you these things do they!
I didn't know my periods would stop whilst bf'ing

SparkleRainbow · 22/01/2011 13:36

Yes completely normal, mine periods returned at anywhere between 1 year and 18 months for my 3 dc. With my ds it was still another three months after I had stopped breast feeding. Also it was long after I had stopped night feeds, as mine 2 dds went through the night from about 12 weeks and I bf them until nearly a year. Everyone is slightly different, and all pregnancies/bf is slightly different, so really don't worry at all.

Jodiebodie · 27/05/2012 19:44

I was getting worried until reading this. I stopped bf my DS (14 months) 6 weeks ago and still no period. I want to start TTC but I guess I will have to be patient! At least I'm not quite so worried now about it.. :)
