I keep getting a severe pain under my ribs in the middle, thats travels down my whole stomach/ side and at times back.

Its like having a contraction and breathing like I'm labour does help a little. Blush Defenatly NOT though!

Its happened about 20 times in the past 2 days.

gall stone ?

NanaNina · 09/01/2011 23:11

Yes sounds like gall stones to me - you need to get GP to refer you for an ulra sound scan. They will tell you there and then if yoyu have gall stones - well they did with me anyway.

Had those ruled out 2 years ago whe had similar (but 10x worse) pain.

Got omeprezole now for GORD - it is helping. Suffer quite severe IBS and had sickness bug, xmas, 2 berevements, 1 almost death (ventilator was switched off but person survived and now brain damaged). Sad

GP thinks it may be a combo of IBS/sickness + stress causing it!! Makes sense I suppose.

could be stomach/bowel ulcerating if you have IBS(or something in this line) does sound that way if losec is helping. what does are you on? 20mg? you migh find 40mg more helpful for a few weeks.

you need to look at what you are eating/drinking to see if it is causing problems. coffee/chocolate/caffeine can cause big problems. you can live without them. drink decaf, eat white chocolate, look at labels to go for an alternative.

diet is not the only answer but can help a lot. have you tried a food diary?

mumbar · 15/01/2011 20:28

Thanks Moocowme very useful.

I have had 40mg omeprezole before when I had gastritis. (inflammation of stomach lining?) I asked for a 20mg dose for now but can double up if I need too.

Don't eat choc other than white anyway. Not a huge caffiene drinker. Have cut back to one coffee a day which I have in the morning after the omeprezole. I drink decaf most the time anyway and have been drinking that solely for a few days now.

I have kept food diaries before - there is no pattern. I do have a low wheat/ low dairy diet though just because it makes sense!

if you have some kind of ulceration it can take a few weeks to go away. if the pain is very bad you need to be very strict with your diet.

mine was so bad at one time (before diagnoses of ZES) that i could eat nothing raw and drank only water. no fruit unless it was a stewed pear. have you tried gaviscon for a week along with your other medication? dont take it at the same time. it is ick but its actually very good if you keep goin with it.

mumbar · 16/01/2011 22:51

tried gaviscon and the OTC Zantac. Neither worked but the omeprezole is now taking effect.

Can I ask what ZES is?

its very rare. Zollinger Ellison Syndrome, they think its possibly caused by MEN1 but cant say at this stage as some tests positive some inconclusive.

if the losec is working then that means you have a digestive problem probably. have they suggested whats causing it? and what they are going to do about it? what tests do they think need to be done?

mumbar · 17/01/2011 18:01

Had every test under the sun for past 20 years!! Abcesses/ fistulas the lot!! Tests show nothing so diagnosis IBS.

Hope your OK, looked up your syndrome. Sad
