Thyroid research: Any medics willing to point me in direction of journals etc?

Hi,
I'd like to do a bit of reading on evidence base in thyroid research. Not that I will get all the details but... Would be a great help if someone could point me in direction of main journals and researchers/specialists in UK. I can look up impact factors etc but nuances get lost there and will save me enormo time if you know already. Thanks.

have you done a search on Pubmed? you wont always get the full article but you get the drift of most papers and sometimes you can google it and find it in full.

Thanks - s'ok, I have access to Pubmed Smile

I have found one called 'Thyroid' which seems to be a global journal. Leetle bit over my head but getting jist. There also seems to be something called the British Thyroid Association which is a group of UK experts I think?

Thanks anyway.

have a google for TPA and see what they say about the BTA. you can join their email list for a view from the other side. I cant say i go along with everything they come up with but you get an interesting idea of the current situation in the UK.

oooh, so there's a controversy, is there? Will look it up now I'm on my lunchbreak.

I'd be really interested to hear from others who have done any reading up on the scientific research.

I'm basically in a dilemma: I have pretty high TSH reading (6 first test, risen to nearly 8, 5 months later) but no other indicators (including no antibodies).

I'm trying to gauge a scientifically informed view on whether it would be worth taking Thyroxine, what the potential side-effects and long term implications are, what might happen if I didn't take it. As far as I can tell, the science is all over the freakin' place: with no clear answer on the benefits of treatment for those with a borderline diagnosis...

Well I have all the 'symptoms' of an underactive thyriod but apparently my blood tests came back as 'no further action necessary'.
