Please reassure me - do you and your baby have (or have had) flu?

Not doing very well at the moment. I stopped taking ibuprofen and paracetamol yesterday afternoon as I seemed to be on the mend, but I feel awful again. I've now taken another paracetamol.
I'm feeling really cold but have a fever (39). Got a horrible cough, and now my chest hurts a bit when I cough or breathe deeply. Starting to feel 'clogged' up.

The worst thing is that my 10 month old son has it too :( He developed it a couple of days after me. He's definitely under the weather - so far, I seem to be able to keep his fever down via Calpol and Calprofen. He is a bit croupy.

My dad has it too (we all got it over Christmas) and he thinks it probably is swine flu. He's a retired GP so presumably does know what he's talking about.

I'm feeling very worried - much more for my son - and would massively appreciate some reassurance. I get the feeling that if I call NHS Direct they will throw Tamiflu in our direction but I'm concerned whether it's a good idea for my son to have this, as I'm reading about side effects. Then again, what if it's wrong to ride it out? Confused

Poor you, it sounds miserable. Regardless of what flu you and your ds have, I think if you're getting better (after a few days) then start to feel worse/run a temp again, its worth getting checked out. Secondary chest/ear/throat infections seem to be very common with the flus that are around at the moment, unfortunately.

Also, Tamiflu is only worth taking if its in the first 48 hours of onset, so I doubt NHS will throw it at you....not sure how long you've both been ill?

nhs didnt offer us tamiflu and me, dh, ds (4) and dd (14wk) have all been ill.

get checked if fever is continuing, ds deveoped a lung infection ande was v poorly.
