Lingering stomach bug.

Hi there,
I just wondered whether anyone out there has experienced a similar illness to me recently, or know anyone who has. I had a stomach bug at the beginning of December, where I was only sick once but had terrible nausea and felt rotten for 10 days but was well again over Christmas and for about 2 weeks in total. My daughters and husband all had similar although there's didn't last as long. Anyway, since Boxing Day the symptoms have returned and I feel like pants again, although again I'm not being sick-I am just feeling very drained and very nauseous and quite debilitated by it, which is the scary bit with a 2 and 4 year old. Anyway, my husband has some mild nausea but he is not really debilitated by it and my dd's (so far, and touch wood!) are fine. has anyone else experienced such a lingering bug?

Have you got colds? There's a viral bug making you feel ill connected to flu/ cold.

I would avoid dairy and drink lemon and hot water, peppermint tea, arrowroot biccies and eat little but regular meals. Sounds annoying.

Get some Actimel drinks. They're great for helping the gut return to normal after a stomach bug.

Bugs gang up on people

I had similar symptoms from the middle of Nov until a few days ago, but there was a nasty viral thing going around which also included general cold symptoms. It left me feeling like the life had been sucked out of me and DH was utterly floored by it, which is literally unheard of for him. We just ate what I felt I could stomach whenever we felt like it but make sure you get plenty of fluids in you.

I second peppermint tea. Anything with mint, arrowroot or ginger is usually quite good for settling a dodgy stomach. I have found that ranitidine, Pepto bismol or Buccastem are good too (I was prescribed ranitidine for morning sickness) but it really depends on the individual. Probiotic drinks/tablets are good for keeping/replacing the good bacteria in the intestines.
