Just under a fortnight ago I noticed what I thought were insect bites inside my buttocks and around my perineum. I had sat outside on the ground the previous evening wearing a tshirt and underpants (southern hemisphere here) and often sleep naked so I thought ant bites or mozzie bites were possible.

Bloody, bloody itchy though. One bite even in the crease between my thigh and vulva.

But the thing is, they're still there. And I can no longer deny that I'm getting the odd new one. The bites are little round dots with a white head I think.

A good look in the mirror, and I think it could be a rash? Or crotch fleas? Do crotch fleas even exist? It's all very red and angry.

Why is this happening to me?

This all coincided precisely with my husband coming home from a few months working away. I have no reason to suspect that he's been unfaithful to me though. And he doesn't have any symptoms of anything himself.

I am too bloody scared to google. And going to the doctor here is not very straightforward, particularly about something like this. I can buy most drugs over the counter if I can self diagnose though.

Any ideas?

I'm a bit scared to be honest. And very, very itchy.

No-one has mentioned psoriasis - I had an attack of this when I was in my twenties at the top of my legs and between my buttocks and I went through agonies thinking it was lice or fleas etc - even used Derbac soap Shock.

It was incredibly itchy and in the end I had to swallow my embarrassment and go to the GP. Was quite relieved when they diagnosed it! I have never had psoriasis before or since (always thought it was something you had as a chronic condition) but it took weeks to get rid of smothering myself in some black smelly ungent and wearing special pants! Not pretty but it worked.

The lumps/spots were about the same size as insect bites and quite hard and I would never have guessed what they were.

How're the bits today? And how are you feeling overall?

bluejeans · 02/01/2011 18:39

Could it be hand foot and mouth disease? Can also affect buttocks/genitals. Do you have mouth ulcers?

Jacksmama · 02/01/2011 23:34

Are you thinking a horrid case of Candida, aly? I always get baboon butt/ perinuem from antibiotics and have had to have four or five rounds this year just past, bleurgh!!

alypaly · 02/01/2011 23:39

yes jacksmama it was my first thought and then a staph infection was my other idea. use some octenisan( can buy from pharmacy) to clean the area to reduce staph infection. i always get fanjothrush after antibiotics and had it vbadly afetr a 2 week course of steroids.

Jacksmama · 02/01/2011 23:46

Ugh, two weeks of steroids... that would mess with your insides. Sympathies. (Or would you rather have wine?)

alypaly · 02/01/2011 23:57
