female sterilisation question

dh is showing absolutely no signs at all of ever getting the snip. I think he's just too cowardly tbh.

We definitely don't want any more children. I can't use hormonal products and I've just had the copper coil out due to heavy periods leading to anaemia.

The only other option is to be sterilised myself. The doctor at the fpc said it can lead to heavy periods, but I don't know how that could be.

Have any of you had this done? - not whilst having a c-section though.

Yep, 11 years ago and only now am I getting heavy/erratic periods - due to my age :(

If you have had a coil or pill that reduces periods then they will seem heavier or course.

I had no problems, and it was the right decision for us (as DH is a wuss & wouldn't go himself).

My copper coil increased my periods, so I'm lighter now. I don't see how a tubal ligation could cause heavier periods. I think she was trying to put me off and to get dh to have a vasectomy, but he aint budging and sex isn't worth bothering with if you have to use a condom

I'm due to have this done in January. My GP thinks the heavy period/period pain thing is probably due to women being used to these things being controlled by hormonal contraceptives which they then stop taking hence heavier/painful periods.

In all honesty, I am a bit worried about the op but I can't take the pill/have mirena as they all make me ill and I definitely don't want more children...

I had no probs with heavy periods & was never told that I might have .

What's the recovery time? How long are you in for?

It depends on how they do the op - some do under General others use Local. For me, it will be General and then I've been told to have about four days off work as recovery time.

i had mine done in 2007 after the birth of dc in 2006. I was only in hospital for an afternoon - think i went to theatre around 2, had it done under general but its just keyhole surgery and was home about 7pm. Was exhausted and a bit weak that evening and i think i just went straight to bed but felt fine the next day.

I was back to doing normal stuff the next day - the only thing i remember being annoying after was there was a stitch right at the top of my bikini line and it was aggrevated by my jeans!!

My periods have varied since the birth of dc3 but i wouldnt say they are heavier since i was sterilised. Think what another poster said about comparing them to being on the pill then they might be heavier.

Its the best decision we made tho - dh also wouldnt go to be sterilised and i was adamant I didnt want any more dc so it has completely removed the worry about it! dc3 was a surprise (despite using condoms) so our sex life was non existant after his birth in case the condom failed again! but after the sterilisation our sex life has gone from strength to strength!

We discussed it and one time during sex I kindly announced that I was ov and it might lead to DC3 - DD2 was 4months old. He ran scared - we went to the GP together to discuss the permanent options and the GP explained how it was much more of a serious op for me than him and that DH would be in and out in 20mins - no scalpel laser procedure. I think the doc made my op sound alot more serious and DH relented - his appointment has just come through for the 1st Feb.

I'm so jealous of other peoples' dhs getting the snip. Mine is just so cowardly and it's totally annoying because I had a c-section and became anaemic with the copper coil. I think I deserve a break and for him to take some responsibility for a change.

If I do get this done there's going to be a lot of acting and a few days in bed for me

My DH wouldn't get the snip either. I don't know what do you do with them eh? :)

I got sterilised in April this year. It's ok as it's keyhole surgery but you may need some TLC for a few days. Make the most of it :)
