Hi, my wife is 8 weeks and 5 today. we had a second scan last monday (i.e. 20/12/2010) and all looks fine with a noticable heartbeat. however my wife has suddenly come down with chills and is very tired, runny nose, etc. she has thrown up or retched for the past 2 weeks but the hospital have so far stated this is normal. i know i may be over-reacting but im just praying this isnt the start of swine flu... her forehead is warm and she is wrapped up loads in bed right now. she is exhausted. it's hard to tell i suppose as since christmas eve she has been involved in a lot of moving from place to face seeing mates and family for the past 3 days so it could be that maybe she just has a cold and is tired as she hasnt really rested much. can anyone help please?

It sounds like quite normal re:puking and tiredness for the first trimester, but chills etc does sound like the onset of flu. Does she have a temperature?

I'm no expert, but bumping this to see if anyone else has any more knowledgeable advice...

Puking and tiredness are totally normal. I was just wiped out until about 16-18 weeks. She could just have a cold, or yes it could be flu (not necessarily swine flu though) but it could end up just being mild. She should take paracetamol to take down her temperature and perhaps you should check in with your GP or NHS Direct.

I am 33 weeks pregnant with a runny nose and chills (since yesterday morning) and tired (all the time - slept most of yesterday) but am pretty sure I just have a bit of a chill not flu as it isn't getting worse.

Try not to worry too much.

You sound lovely - hope she gets better soon. I puked for a full four months for the first two pregnancies, but only for about 8 weeks with this one. Ginger biscuits and jasmine tea worked for me (milk was awful so went off real tea). Needed to eat little bits here and there, rather than full meals at the start. (I have to say though, O-J was really bad for me on the puking front :( )

Tiredness is genuinely overwhelming and really can knock you sideways.

Keep doing what you're doing (and congratulations btw Xmas Smile.
