vomited christmas eve, shakey and achey all through the night, vomited 3 more times through the night,
dragged myslef out of bed for the DS's christmas morning but couldn't stop shaking and felt like my whole body had been hit by a truck.
slept for most of christmas day, punctuated with ibuprofen and paracetamol
temp of 38.5 gave up with being at parents so we all came home last night so I could be in my own pit.
throat started to close up last night and by this morning I just can't swallow without it being like razor blades.
temp still 38=39 still achey shakey
feel like a bag of pants, (brown and cream wide fronts at that!)
how long do I ride it out before seeking medical attention? given that although i feel like \I am dying I know that it is probbably something like tonsilitis or flu

i would give NHS direct a ring, GP is unlikely to want you in if you have flu tbh. Hope you feel better soon

GreyskullsInBed · 26/12/2010 20:01

oh I hadn't thought of calling them.. aren't they just likely to tell me to see my gp

Sounds like you have the flu. You are doing all the right things, you just need to rest and try and keep your fluids up. Nothing can be done. Tonsilitis is not normally accompanied by aching body. Flu is though. And v common at the minute.

Do ring your out of hours service if you are worried. But unless you have breathing difficulties or chest pain, it's unlikely you need more than rest and analgesics.

Hope you feel better soon, it tends to last five to seven days btw.

Slobbadan · 26/12/2010 20:06

look in the back of your throat if you can, if its white and lumpy looking its more than likley tonsilitits and you will need anti b's. It sounds exactly what i was like last time i had a bad bout of tonsiliis. Hope you feel better soon.

ok so have torch and mirror and back of throat is almost covered by swollen lunps from each side which are like white fluffy clouds (why don't the feel as soft and fently as they look!)

Oh good, it's not flu then! That's positive. Very few people die from tonsillitis. Call your out of hours service or NHS direct to be referred. :)

We've had the flu/a virus for over a week. Its started much the same. Go to bed, drink lots of water and get well soon x

thanks all,
saw out of hours gp this morning and have antibiotics and a marvelous anaesthetic gargle liquid that is allowing me to numb my throat a bit before trying to swallow the liquid ab's

seems so wrong to feel this poorly over a sore throat, but hopefully it won't last too much longer Smile
