can you get one of those hopi candle things from health food shop?

minipie · 22/12/2010 16:27

presume you've tried holding nose and blowing? pulling at your earlobe and massaging round your ears can also help open the tubes a bit.

if you're all bunged up with a cold, a decongestant is likely to help. Or, how about some spicy food to make your nose run?

Steam is v good for clearing sinuses - not sure about ears - but I always run the shower and sit in the bathroom for a bit to loosen up my sinuses

I agree - steaming! I had really bad sinusitis and had my head over the sink with boiling, really boiling hot water and a towel to enclose me in. After breathing in for a while i blew all the gunk out of my nose and the release of presurre was amazing

Thanks all

Ears have been blocked for over a week now and I think it was the holding nose, blowing and swallowing that set my sinuses off. Could be coincidence though.

I'd love to give ear candles a go but I've never managed to find any.

My nose isn't totally blocked but the pressure in my sinuses is unbelievable, I'll definitely try steam.

Spicy food, mmm, that might well help. Already got a lasagna in the oven and no way am I doing any more cooking today.

Any more ideas or should I just put up and shut up.

Wow Grin

thank you! The steam really, really helped. I no longer feel as if my head is about to explode. One of my ears popped a bit while I was under the towel too. Bonus.

A GP told me that what she recommends is Beconase, which is that stuff you squirt up your nose for hayfever. You can buy an own brand over the counter and it's about £6ish.

She said to use it morning and night for a couple of weeks. I've been doing this for the last couple of years and it really works.
