Anyone know anything about Valarium?

I read about it today on a travel thread on here and I asked dh to look out for it in Holland and Barrat. We are travelling to the US with a 4 yera old and a 1.5 year old. No problem with 4 year old, but I think we may get chucked off the plane at altitude by other passangers when 1.5 year old really gets going. SO I thought I might try the valarium. However, the packet says from 2 years old. This actually doesn't bother me much, but I was wondering if anyone else has used it. Does it work? What is it like? Etc etc!

do you mean valerian? No personal experience but have heard good things.

Ilana, do you mean a product containing valerian? If so, it is a quite strong herbal sleep aid. It's effective but IMO I would not use it on an under two.

afaik valerian is to valium as opium is to heroin.

I would definately not give it to a child.

actually scratch that - I've just remebered who told me that valerian is the herbal version of valium and she's a nutcase.

I still wouldn't give it to an under two though - it has been known to have nasty side effects in high doses and presumably won't have been tested in that age group.

This is a reliable, reputable website that says it shouldn't be given to under-3s, so I would be very wary of using it with a 1.5 year old I'm afraid.

IlanaK · 29/09/2005 18:31

Yes, it is Valarian that I meant. Thanks for the link to the website. IT was an interesting read, but it did say that the reason it is not suitable for under 3's is it had not been tested on that age. The packet I have says suitable from 2 years old. It is one drop for each year of life. So I think reducing the dose for a 1.5 year old would be fine. What I want to know I suppose is if anyone has used it and what to expect.
