Well had an operation yesterday to remove 1xpile and 2x skin tags next to the pile = a sore swollen anus. So was given co-codamol and very strong antibiotics. Thing is i remember when i had episiotomy after my son and has to be stitched up, got infection, had antibiotics and co codamol, and i think the worst thing about it all was being soooo constipated it was awful, so am thinking do i not take the pai n killers and put up with a bit of pain and not have the awful constipation or just take the pain releif to get rid of pain. hhhhmmmmmmm i just dont know, any advice??

Pain relief with tinned peaches and lots of water.

anything with codeine in it will make you constipated. Ordinary paracetamol won't, and you can reduce the effect of the co-codamol by taking one co-codamol + one paracetamol instead of two co-cod.

The antibiotics on the other hand will possibly give you diarrhoea (eating probiotic yogurt can help a bit with this).

I would play it by ear a bit, and try to find the right balance. See if the pain is bearable just with paracetamol. (You might find you can cope with just that during the day, and then you could just take co-codamol at night - as things tend to be more painful then.)

have they given you any idea of healing time, or supplied you with stool softener (lactulose or similar)? so that it is easier for you to have a bowel movement? If not it might be asking your GP if that would be helpful for you. good luck - hope you feel more comfortable soon Smile

Movicol stool softener should help, it's prescription only.

And sadly, a bit less food while it heals (what goes in must come out). I get IBS and fissures and have to cut back on food when it's, it does help.

Get better soon!

they have given me lactulose to take 15ml at night, had terrible wind today but it wouldnt come out, it did in the end. But dont think anything else wants to come out. Cant believe so much swelling just for 3 minor things!!

If they cleared your system out before the op. (with an enema or laxatives) then IME you will probably not produce anything for a day or so.
