Have I got stomach acid?

I keep getting a pain, its just below my breasts at the top of my stomach right in the centre.

Really painful, lasts about an hour normally and I think its eased when I am able to burp a little, but this might just be coincidence.

Does this sound like stomach acid and if so what causes/eases it as its really painful

  1. Quite definitely - it's part of the human physiology to have acid in your stomach Grin
  1. Sounds like you have indigestion or reflux - take gaviscon, it works a treat

Try putting a few books or bricks under the feet of your bed at the head end. Use another pillow to try and raise your head and neck up a bit.

Gaviscon Advance is really good, pretty expensive though. You can also buy Ranitidine over the counter.

What is Rantidine?

Ranitidine is a stronger antacid- used for treatment of ulcers etc.

Better even than Gaviscon is Gastrocote- ask in Boots and they'll give you a whopping tub with 100s in for about £8.It isn't marketed with the same ferocity as Gaviscon but IMO is better. Peppermint oil capsules are another life saver- I'm never without them now.

If it carries on, get a blood test for h.pylori infection. Acid indigestion is the main symptom of that.
