gave dd1 some cadburys wafer. after eating she was saying her throat hurts. she looks very lethargic. have given piriton just in case. wrap says may contain traces of nuts, peanuts and eggs. what do i do? sit and wait for other symptons?

Does she have a known allergy to peanuts misdee?

Aero · 26/09/2005 16:47

or eggs?

misdee · 26/09/2005 16:49

she various allergies aero. she a typical 'atopic' child and has allergies basically to a lot of things. i havent knowingly exposed her to peanuts before, but she does usually have eggs at least once a week.

Could she have eaten it quickly and scratched her throat? (Sorry, not sure how old your DD is?) Perhaps a drink of something warm might soothe it, and if it is an allergy the Piriton will knock it on the head. You've definitely done the right thing.

misdee · 26/09/2005 16:54

she ahs drifted off to sleep. her breathing is fine, and no urticia (sp??) has appeared and no swelling anywhere.

i hate allergies, constantly on our guard.

Agree with 3princesses and if it were more serious, I'm sure you'd be seeing the signs by now and you'd know immediately to get her to A&E if she were in trouble re breathing. Pretty sure you've done the right thing and the piriton would make her sleepy anyway - it certainly knocks me out! Hope she's ok misdee.

cheers aero. she hasnt had a major reaction for a few months. last one was at school when she had some spag bol, made her lips swell up.

Glad to hear that she is OK. My ds wont eat any "brown" chocolate now as he has often in the past said it makes him feel ill and starts scratching. Obviously some was contaminated and gave him a reaction, so now we avoid it but for some reason White chocolate is OK on the whole.
I remeber asking about chocolate on another thread a while ago, and it can quite often be contaminated according to others with children who have allergies.

Has she had a reaction like this before to chocolate?

misdee · 26/09/2005 18:00

no, not a reaction like this before.

anyone know of any 'safe' chocolate?

Doesn't Kinnerton make chocolate that guarantees no nuts in their factory? Don't know about other ingredients though.
Poor wee thing with the spag bol though.

monstersmummy · 26/09/2005 20:15

tbh lots of things say they may contain traces to cover their own backs if they have been on the same machine as a nut based chocolate. i agree tho think its kinnerton that guarantees no nuts at all but it tastes nasty. they do lots of advent calenders but can't recall seeing it many other places.

ask in a health food shop? maybe green and blacks is the same?

singersgirl · 26/09/2005 23:11

Was with a mum with daughter with peanut allergy this w/end and she said Cadbury's Buttons are OK - must be made on a different line. All other Cadbury stuff is apparently 'may contain....'

misdee · 27/09/2005 22:27

Hmmmz, dd1 eczema had flared up overnight and she was quite sore, plus she had atopic shiners (big black marks under her eyes) which leads me to belive she DID have a reaction last night.

OP posts:
Aero · 28/09/2005 17:04

Poor thing - how is she now? This happens to my neice when she has chocolate/ice cream, etc - she has some sort of cow's milk intolerance.Excema that is, not atopic shiners!

NotQuiteCockney · 28/09/2005 17:21

Oh, Smarties are ok. I hate Nestle, but needed something without traces of nuts to put on a school birthday cake ...

misdee · 28/09/2005 20:33

does this sound to anyone like it could be a reaction?? dont want to be a panciy mother.
