But I can't find any similar threads.

Can I take aspirin and paracetamol together? I've got 500mg paracetamol and 300mg aspirin, would they be better than ibuprofen? I've got an abscess on my gum and it's hurting lots, got no antibiotics in the house.

Oh woe is me

Is it soluble aspirin? Because it makes a good local anti inflammatory if you rinse it round your mouth.

I think you can take them together, but I don'#t know

RTKangaMummy · 25/09/2005 13:21

I don't really know

but have you got any bonjela?

or teething gel or powder

dinny · 25/09/2005 13:22

poor you, can you go to emergency dentist?

Rowlers · 25/09/2005 13:23

Don't know.
I had dreadful sinusitis a while ago and the only thing that went near the pain was 600mg ibuprofen.
Got a supermarket near you with a dispensary?

steffee · 25/09/2005 13:37

Yeah, I thought I might go to asda, they gave me this soluble paracetamol last time I had this and it was great. Might go and get that.

I have tried and tried to get in a dentist for weeks (had this tooth problem for almost a month now) but can't. Have managed to get an appointment for Thursday though!

I've got orajel which is great at masking the pain!

go to an emergency dentist - call your usual dentist and they should have the number of emergency one. usually based at hospitals/walk-ins. you can't wait till Thursday with a sodding abscess!

dinny · 25/09/2005 13:39

the number should be left on their answerphone message.

dinny · 25/09/2005 13:40

oh, and Solpadeine is v good for agonising dental pain, IME.

steffee · 25/09/2005 13:48

That's what it was, solpadeine!

I've had these problems with my teeth for over a year, since my wisdom teeth have come through, first on one side, now on the other.

I will try a dentist again now then, but the appointment I was given was an emergency appointment and I told them on the phone it was swollen and that last time this happened the dentist wouldn't even do anything for a week until I'd had antibiotics to get rid of the abscess.

If there isn't an emergency dental centre then go to A & E. An abcess is sufficient reason and needs treatment.

dinny · 25/09/2005 13:52

it's great stuff!

but at least you could start on antibiotics today rather than Thursday if you saw a dentist now. hope you get seen, it's an awful sort of pain. I was lucky (well, in a way!) when I last had v bad dental pain that my pharmacist friend was living with us and she put me on a mad concotion of drugs.

steffee · 25/09/2005 13:55

lol at the "mad concoction of drugs".

I think I will make a trip to the A&E then, thanks for all your help everyone!

OP posts:
dinny · 25/09/2005 13:57

ah, the joys of A&E on a Sunday pm. Take a good book and hope you get some relief soon!

steffee · 25/09/2005 14:09

I've changed my mind again lol, the painkillers are starting to kick in, so I've decided to wait until tomorrow and see if I can get in a dentist, even if I have to travel! lol

Hi

Last few times I've had tooth ache I've used cloves or oil of cloves - worth trying if you can't get to dentist before Thurs. Cloves you would sort of bite on with your dodgy tooth - if that's too painful, apply oil of cloves - try really hard not to get it on your tongue, it tastes disgusting, maybe use a cotton bud.

Also, dentist told me that for over the counter remedies, gargling with soluble aspirin is the rolls royce of pain killers!

I did think of going to the docs and making out I don't know it's a tooth problem (the pain is all down the side of my face anyway, it could be an ear infection for all I know!) to see if he will give me antibiotics.

I haven't got any cloves or oil of cloves, but have got orajel which is meant to be just as good.
