DS4 has just been diognosed with molluscom contagious pimple like marks all over his chest, GP says it's a virus and to ignore it although it can take up to 2 years to go. They have also said it is contagious but he can still go swimming!!! looks very unsightly am worry he'll get teased when he starts school after xmas

ds had it and was still allowed to swim. His were behind his knee so easier to keep covered. They actually went in about 4/5 months and got worse before they went completely when he had chickenpox. Best thing to remember is it is very common.

There are some things which others have found helped them go - try searching the archived messages for Molluscum Contagiosum.

Don't worry, my DS had this. I'd never heard of it before then, but other Mums said, "Oh, Molluscum!". It's very common. At his age no other kids will notice. Leave them alone & they do just dissapear eventually.

Don't worry they will go!
My son had these for about a year...and then all of a sudden they all dissapeared. He had quite a few and generally on the areas where he had eczema. At one point a few got infected (as he itched them a bit coz of the eczema) but they went soon after.

My dd had molluscum, which lasted quite a long time. Some were on her face, thus visible but afaik, no one ever mentioned them, let alone teased her. We didn't stop doing anything like swimming, it was situation normal. As Lizs says, do a mumsnet search on molluscum and you'll soon know everything there is to know about it!

So that's what ds2 has on his chest!

I first noticed them on holiday in Turkey and put them down to a heat rash that was taking a while to clear up esp as he was scratching the tops off them. He also has eczema. Will do a search on it.
