Terrible pain near heart last night - what could it have been ?

Had the most agonising pain suddenly come on last night .
Sort of under and to side of left breast .
Couldn't inhale/breathe properly because of pain .
Any movement ,even the slightest made it worse .
Ibroprufren didn't lessen it .
Anyway one phone call to NHS and one ambulance crew later ,I'm left with clear ECG and struggle to bed .
After about 40 mins pain magically disapears.
This morning it's just tender/aching in that area .
Apart from feeling a complete fool .I'm wondering what on earth it was .
Cramp ? Do you think ?

Not to scare you but just to make the point to go to GP and get checked out if you still worried -

I had chest pain a few weeks ago nhs called ambulance, they did ecg, fast but regular and went away.

2 days later went to GP - he had blood test results and I promptly got sent in to hospital with suspected blood clot.

Oh you guys are so nice - thanks for all your replies .
I'm tending to think muscle or wind related .
When it's bad it does hurt to touch ,and I imagine would be agony to cough /sneeze .Certainly affects breathing ,have to breathe very shallowly .
It's on left hand side ,sort of where my breast meets my torso and terribly affected by movement ,and now I think about it ,the weight of my breast dragging on it .
I think the thing I really don't understand is how suddenly it comes on and then how suddenly it goes .
I had all night and then it went suddenly after I got up .
I'd think it was trapped wind ,but that wouldn't leave a residual dull pain ,would it ?
In the end I took paracetomal and codeine ,and that did help a bit .
Ok I'm ringing GP to make appointment .

Might it be Precordial catch Syndrome? I get this and it really is terrible, scary pain.

becaroo · 26/11/2010 09:54

I suffer from gastric reflux and indigestion and it can be incredibly painful.

Hope you feel better today x

Unprune · 26/11/2010 10:10

No, I think if it still hurts today then it's not what I get sometimes.
Do go back to the GP!

Unprune · 26/11/2010 10:11

That Precordial Catch thing sounds precisely like what I get - like a bubble of intense pain that needs to burst. Interesting! Maybe my Tums are just a placebo.
