Has anyone any experience please.

My DS is due to have a Nuclear Renal Scan and Micturating Cystourethrogram on the 2nd, he will be 8 weeks old.

Is it upsetting to watch them fit the catheter and the cannula?
Do they restrain or sedate for the scan?

i have jus come from taking my son to Micturating Cystourethrogram today, and i can assure you its not as bad as you may think. I was so very worried about them doing this and have been dreading it for days. The worst bit is when they put the catheter in, my lo wouldnt stop crying, understandable really i think it was made worse as he was due a feed. However it was over very quick and i was surprised with how they handled him. The xray bit is fine, again all over very quick, they even done the xray twice as to make sure everything was ok.

As for the renal scan, he is having that done on thurs so will update as soon as i can.

hope this helps and all you can do is reassure your lo.

Thank you for the bump Lotster.

Thank you Scooby, hope your son is okay, and thursday is less upsetting for him. Doing both at the same time with my little man, not sure if that is a good or bad thing really, but at least it will be over and done with.

Is your son on antibiotics? If he is have they increased the dose for a few days?

It is worth it to find out what is going on, but doesn't make it any easier really.

he is on trimethoprim and has been since being born. they have never said anything about changing the dose over the couple of days that hes having the tests done. they did say he may be more likey to get a uti after having the mcug so look out for a fever and may lose his appetite which isnt good as he is a very poor feeder anyway. :(

DS is on the same and has been since day 1. It mentioned it in the leaflet they sent about increasing it, but maybe it depends. Thank you.
