Delayed Baby Blues?

I was just wondering if anyone else has had these? After DD was born she was very poorly for several weeks, and I didn't have the baby blues then - mainly because I think I was just focused on getting through the day and making sure she was OK. She is now 10 weeks old and doing really well but I've been struggling to recover from the birth and have become really tearful/low in the last week. I don't think it's PND yet, but I was just wondering if anyone else had had the baby blues so long after the birth of their baby?

Just noticed your post was unanswered. I think baby blues would be perfectly normal in your situation. Adjusting to a new baby is difficult even if they have not been ill and the lack of sleep can deflate even the most positive of people.
I think you should wait and see what happens, give yourself a couple more weeks and if your mood doesn't improve to talk to your HV or GP about it.

I could be wrong but as I've always understood it the baby blues are a short lived thing that can occur quite soon (few days) after the birth and are due to a big hormonal shift happening at that time. PND however can happen later on.

In any case, I guess whatever you call it doesn't change the way you are feeling now so in some ways the 'label' is unimportant.

It sounds like it has been a bit of a rollercoaster time for you recently with the birth and your dd being ill. Maybe now that she is doing well, all that has happened over the past weeks has caught up with you a bit? I think sometimes when we are dealing with a lot going on it is not until after that we have time to think about it, and that is when it hits us. Like you say at the time you spend all your energy just focusing on getting through the day.

Do you have someone you can talk to in RL about what has happened and how you are feeling? Maybe contact your HV?
