Nits or Dandruff

DS & DD got sent home early from the childminder today with suspected nits. I have gone through both their heads and all I can see is what I think are flakes of skin, that to me look like the flakes of skin you normally get as cradle cap.
I have never seen or had to deal with nits before so not sure what I am looking for, however I have not found any insects the size of matchstick heads. Only what the childminder called eggs.
Can you get the eggs with no lice to lay them?
Can you mistake the two?
Please some advice.

Thanks

The easiest way to check is to comd their hair while wet with a nit comb.

What colour are the eggs? nit eggs are dark.

To check if "bits" are eggs they will pop/ crack when pressed between nail and finger. Funny I can't remember if dark or light.

they're unmistakable imo!

They also stick to the hair, if they are not stuck then they are definitely not eggs. When DD gets them they can be there for weeks after you have got rid of the lice and you physically have to pull them out to get rid of them!!!

Nit expert here!!! Unfortunately

Sorry....gave a bit of false information then.... the casings of the eggs attach to the hair not the eggs themselves but you usually know if you have nits because of these casings!!!
