Swollen vein in finger - any ideas?

One of the veins in my right ring finger (the palm side) has sort of popped up - it's blue and swollen, very tender and feels a bit hot to touch. I haven't bumped it (afaik). Any ideas of what it might be?

hi! i've experience the same thing two days ago! it was a painful swell on my left finger. i i thought the vein is going to burst. I hold my hands up high for 15 minutes and the swell went down. but could see bruising later on. went to the doctor and they are surprised and not sure what to do as well. sighhh.

I know this post has been on fir a while but only just found this! I get this quite often and always found massaging brings the swelling a pain down fairly quickly. I got it again prompting me to search this again! The best information I can find seems to suggest Palmar Digital Vein Thrombosis. Apparently fairly rare (?!) So guessing why gps dont recognise it however dermatologists should. As far as I can see treatment is conservative however if continuous or prolonged I would definitely seek medical advice. Hope this helps xx
