Citalopram

My dad (64) has been prescribed Citalopram after a serious car accident which has left him with a badly broken leg and panic attacks.

He is diabetic.

Is Citalopram safe for him to take? I had heard that it can increase the risk of seizures, but wondered if anyone had experience of it?

Also, what are the common side effects?

Any info gratefully received Smile

I don't think the GP would have prescribed the Citalopram without kowing your Dad's history.

Citroplam is an anti depressive.

The side effects I experienced were feeling ever so slightly sick for two weeks, after that - NOTHING.

Hope your Dad gets over the trauma of his accident soon.

My dh takes citalopram for depression. It did make himk feel poorly for a couple of weeks, but then he has been fine on it ever since. You can always ring up the doctors and just check with them about the diabetes over the phone, good luck.

Thank you both.
