What age does a baby start teething??

I just need some advice as to whether or not my dd is teething yet as she is only 2 months old. Over the last couple of days she has been dribbling constantly, her cheeks are red and she is forever chewing her little hands. Could this be teething or is it too early?? Every book i've read has said teething starts at around six months. Can anyone help as I have a teething ring cooling in the fridge, but don't know whether to try her with it!!

throw the book away my dear, my dd1 cut her 1st tooth at 5months, everyone said that was early. my 2nd cut her tooth at 3 1/2 months. try giving her the teething ring, dont know if u can try teething gel yet, bickipegs are a no-no till 6months.
sounds very much like she is teething to me. it might take a while for that lil tooth to pop thro tho.

Agree with misdee, it could be teething. Don't get too excited though! My dd started teething at about 3 months for 2 weeks really badly, but then stopped - she is now 7 months and not a tooth in her head!

dd started to dribble alot at 3 months, had red cheeks and dribbling at 5 months and now at 8 months has had 3 come through in the last 2 weeks!

can't babies be bron with teeth sometimes? They can start teething at any time (ds started on and off at about 4 mths and had his first tooth at 8 mths)

My four all got their first teeth between 3 and 4 months.

A friend of mine gave birth to a daughter with teeth (the front bottom 2), so it is possible ! My DD's first one arrived at 5 months yet I have a friend whose 9 month old DD is still happily gummy and showing no signs of teeth yet !

I'd offer her the teether, even if she isn't teething it won't hurt/harm her in any way.

magnum, DD2 (now 15 weeks) was doing much the same as your dd at around 2 months. An aunt suggested to me that she might be teething, which I completely pooh-poohed as being very unlikely (DD1 started teething at exactly 6 months). Sure enough she gave me a big grin a few weeks later and there they were - her bottom two had cut through!! So much for being the expert on your own baby!
Teething gel is OK from 3 months. I have been using Nelsons homeopathic teething granules, which seem to be helping.

Is definitely possible my niece is 12 weeks and her first tooth is arriving - she has been showing signs of teething for about 3 weeks.

My baby girl got her first two (bottom front) teeth just before she turned 5 mos. I was not expecting them to arrive at all so did not pick up on any signs or unusual behaviour and I don't think there was any. I've always been sceptical about people claiming that very young babies are teething when, much of the time, I think its just being a baby, i.e. crying! (older folk particularly like to suggest teething, once they've stopped telling you the baby's not getting enough milk if you're bfing!). Sounds like teeth before 6 mos is more common than I thought

Sounds like teething - we had dripping wet tops from all the dribble at about 3 months and we said he couldn't possibly be teething. And then at 4 months there they were. We used calgel anyway - not sure about the age limit!

Sounds like my ds could be teething too(he's 3 1/2 months)....I spend most of my time wiping his chin and changing tops!

My friend's ds had his first two bottom teeth through by just over 4 months. Now 7 months - he has 8.
Another friend's dd (now 6) was born with teeth which made breastfeeding interesting apparently.

magnum, my dd started teething at 2 months, first tooth at 4 months, had 8 teeth by 6 months! Then nothing until this week (11 months) and another one has popped through!

I second Nelson's teetha powder and Calgel is very good too.

Teething rings are pretty useless at 2 months I seem to remember as they can't hold them/keep them in their mouths.

Hi my baby is 6 months has had a temperature for two days that comes and goes, very fractious and is off his milk. occassionaly dribbles and is swapping his dummie frantically from side to side. He has no other physical obvious complaints - does anyone else recognise these symptoms as normal for teething?

louise-teething doesnt normally cause a temperature,he could have a throat/ear infection or something.

my dd2 started teething at 12 weeks and cut her first teeth at 9 months.

calgel is suitable from 3 months although i used it on dd3 from 10 weeks.and calpol.

DS1 cut his first tooth at approx 4mth with very little signs of teething.

DS2 showed signs of teething from 9wks. Didn't cut his first teeth (two came through at the same time) til 22wks.

I've found Ashton & Parsons teething powders worked best as did most of my friends and the mums from my baby group. You can buy them in Boots.

My DD had her first tooth at 4 months and more in quick succession. She got slightly bitey when bf when getting her front top teeth through but after that she didn't hurt me at all.

Is going off food normal for teething? My ds is almost 3 months, he just started to dribble and chew his little hands a lot. He didn't eat properly for last 3 days... I normally BF him and give a top up of formula in the evening. Now he's BFeeding half as much as usually and only chewing the bottle teat instead of eating. On the top of that he's v tearful and I don't know what to do to make him eat normally.
BTW No matter how old is that thread... it's still helpful!Smile

my dd is 3months on wed and is defiantly teethiing, she's baby no3 and the first two were the same, very tear either feeds for ages or isn't interested, dribbling loads, crying when she doesn't usually. we've got nelsons teetha powders which soothe her and im eagerly awaiting her amber teething necklace.
